SUMMARY:Solstice Singers "Sing for the Coming of the Longest Night"
DESCRIPTION:Come join the Solstice singers for the delights of long winter nights\, and the promise of ever-growing light following the winter solstice. The moon and stars\, and the beauty of snow and shadows\, feature prominently in the musical selections. Included are many of Solstice Singers’ traditional crowd-pleasing “classics” such as The Boar’s Head as well as some beautiful\, solemn pieces.\n\nThe children’s group\, Les Enfants du Soleil\, will participate in singing\, dancing\, and general revelry throughout the show.\nSeveral traditional dances are featured this year. A Morris dance with athletic stepping and leaping will be performed by two young dancers. The youth group\, Nobska Lights\, will perform a “rapper” dance using flexible “swords.” The Vineyard Swordfish\, always a crowd pleaser of Solstice Singers shows\, will perform a traditional “longsword” dance of northern England with a fun twist!\n\nThis year’s mummers play features St. George\, the Dragon\, and a quack Doctor\, putting a new slant on the traditional theme of death (winter) followed by the renewal of life (spring).\n\nEnsemble Passacaglia accompanies many of the songs and dances. The group will also perform their own period music pieces on authentic strings\, winds\, and percussion centering on medieval and Renaissance music from European traditions.\n\nThe Community Hall at 68 Water Street in Woods Hole\, MA is accessible to people with disabilities. While tickets will be available at the door if not sold out\, seating is limited\, so advance purchase is strongly recommended.\n\nTickets: $25 adults\, $10 students. Visit www.solsticesingers.org to order tickets with a major credit card or Apple Pay (no fee is added).
