Falmouth Road Race: Your Guide to the Cape Cod Classic

Summertime is one of the busiest months on the Cape, and with it brings many of the joys of the season: fresh seafood, summer concerts and warm weather, and the perfect place for a runner’s paradise.

The Falmouth Road Race brings together tradition, competition, and sportsmanship on a beautiful coastal route that only the Cape can provide. Established in 1973, being close to the sea-level brings runners a challenge if they are interested in altitude training, with many runners traveling from all over to compete, from Olympians, international athletes, and casual competitors.

If you weren’t able to get your application in on time or were not selected to run, do not fear! We at the Falmouth Visitor are here to guide you along your trip to watch the Falmouth Road Race.

The first big tidbit of advice we can give is plan your travel accordingly. The race route will be effectively shut down for the first half of the day, so we recommend checking the Town Of Falmouth Police Department‘s page for updates.

Some of the most scenic spots are going to be around the Nobska Lighthouse, Surf Drive, and Oyster and Eel Pond. Get there early to set up to cheer on the racers — we recommend getting there between 7:30-8:15 am, when the first heat starts at 8:40 am. Parking is limited, so carpool with family and friends or take advantage of the scenic routes by biking along the coast or the Shining Sea Bikeway.

The race is 7 miles, so racers typically finish by noon or one barring any complications. Falmouth blossoms afterwards with afterparties, live music, and lots of fun, so be sure to stick around town!

Dozens of local businesses sponsor the event, from the Run House, Cape Cod Coffee, and Falmouth Hospital, but more national names such as Tito’s, Olipop and Poland Spring are endorsers as well — so we promise this is a must-see event!
