Daytrips from Falmouth
Falmouth is blessed with easier access than most of the Cape with broad route 28 leading straight in and out of town. Close by places include the island of Martha’s Vineyard which is just three miles off, or about half hour by ferry.
Curious to explore the Lower Cape including Chatham, Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown? This is an excellent day trip from Falmouth with about 100 miles to the tip of Cape Cod on route 6. Drive along the scenic old road, route 6A also known as the “Kings Highway” through Sandwich, Barnstable, Dennis to see old houses close to the road from the era of the earliest settlers.
Head off Cape to nearby Plymouth to explore America’s first settlement at Plimouth Plantation, take a gander at famous Plymouth Rock and explore the shops and museums, just a forty minute drive away.
Newport and the glamour of the GIlded Age mansions are about an hour south on the coast of Rhode Island.
New Bedford boasts amazing museums including the New Bedford Whaling Museum, cobblestone streets and the largest fishing fleet on the eastern seaboard. With the UMass Dartmouth campus nearby, there are also wonderful hip new restaurants and lots to explore.
