Megansett Harbor, a place to explore in wintertime

Your winter trip to Falmouth MA is not complete without checking out Megansett Harbor in North Falmouth.  Impossible to park here in summertime, but come winter the lot is open and the beach is absolutely gorgeous.

Finding Megansett Harbor

Megansett Harbor is tucked away in North Falmouth on the border of Bourne, and in many ways it does not want to be found.  But do plan on exploring this lovely residential neighborhood on your off season excursion to Falmouth Mass.  You will be stunned by the quiet, awed by boarded up mansions along the waterfront, and charmed with the views towards Cleveland Light which marks the passage into the Cape Cod Canal.

To drive to Megansett Harbor, take County Road off Route 28A to the very end.  There is a parking lot to your left, the main jetty directly in front of you at the end of the road.  Park and explore on foot!

Great Neighborhood

You will appreciate how fantastic this neighborhood is in summertime on your winter stroll over snow dunes and frozen sand.  Most houses are boarded up from winter storms which can be especially intense in this section of Buzzards Bay.

Stand on the Jetty

Do not leave without pausing to take in the view on the jetty that extends into Megansett Harbor.  Even with the snow and ice on the water, you can imagine the summertime fun that is had here on the beach, in small boats and sailing.  Directly before you is Scraggy Neck (part of Bourne, MA called Cataumet) as well as Amrita Island which has a mysterious and beautiful stone house on it.  Learn more about the history of Amrita Island here.

Check Out the Yacht Club

Love this wintery capture of the summer swim float perched on the shore, even more fun if there had been snow everywhere but it was clear the day we visited.

Brr ... It's cold!

Winter walks on the beach are amazing but bundle up as those strong winter winds can be pretty chilly.  Bring your camera for the great view, and enjoy the solitude on your winter exploration of Falmouth’s amazing beaches.
