Autumn in Falmouth is a Runner’s Paradise!

Running the Falmouth Road Race has been an annual summertime tradition for over 50 years and is considered by many to be a rite of passage for residents. Although the race,  which now includes an abundance of elite runners, garners much of the public and press attention, there are several opportunities to enjoy fun and challenging races here in the off-season.

Cape Cod Marathon

The Mayflower Wind Cape Cod Marathon Weekend takes place October 1st – 2nd and includes a marathon, half marathon, relay marathon, 5K and a Kids Fun Run. Indulge in a cup of clam chowder and apple cider donuts after the race!

  • The 5K race takes place on Saturday morning. The course, which starts and finishes at Town Hall Square, is an out-and-back flat, fast and scenic route with views of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Sound.
  • The Mayflower Wind Cape Cod Marathon and Half Marathon take place on Sunday morning. The half marathon course is a fast and scenic route along the coast, with views of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Sound. The marathon starts and finishes at the Falmouth Village Green and offers expansive ocean views on a relatively flat and fast course.
  • On Sunday morning there will be a free Kids Fun Run, which includes a t-shirt and medal. The race is a ⅓ mile loop around St. Barnabas Church, followed by children’s activities!

Falmouth in the Fall

Falmouth in the Fall Road Race takes place on Sunday, November 6. The classic local road race has been held each autumn since 1979. The Falmouth Road Race and Shipwrecked have partnered to sponsor the race this year. The seven-mile race is run on the same scenic course as the ASICS Falmouth Road Race, beginning in Woods

Hole, passing by Nobska Lighthouse, stretching along Surf Drive, and finishing at the ballpark in Falmouth Heights.

Cape Cod ZOOMA Women’s Race Weekend

This women’s weekend is based at Sea Crest Beach Hotel in North Falmouth on the weekend of September 24-25. Saturday’s itinerary includes a sunrise yoga session on the beach in front of the hotel. The 1 mile Lobster Trap Beach Run takes place Saturday evening, followed by both a 10K and a half marathon on Sunday morning.

The half marathon was recognized by Runner’s World as one of the top races of the year. The beautiful scenery along the course includes spectacular ocean views, picturesque cranberry bogs, peaceful marshes, wooded areas and neighborhoods. All events are followed by a post-race party!

Whether you are a competitive racer looking to earn a personal record, or a casual runner trying out your first race, fall in Falmouth offers enjoyment for everyone!
